Community Involvement
Tapemark and our employees support the communities where we live and do business in a variety of ways.
Employee Giving Campaign
Each year, Tapemark employees participate in a giving campaign for selected charities capped by Campaign Week, a fun, event-filled week to highlight and encourage charitable donations by payroll deduction and/or individual gifts. Throughout the year, quarterly events and programs focus on selected charitable organizations and volunteer opportunities. Featured charitable organizations include the Greater Twin Cities United Way, Community Health Charities Minnesota, and Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless.
Tapemark annually matches a significant percentage of all employee donations to these organizations. Our internal campaign has repeatedly been recognized for leadership in areas including employee participation, leadership giving and overall dollars raised. Tapemark is proud to provide paid time off for employees to participate in volunteer opportunities. We encourage employees and all readers of our web site to look into these and other charitable organizations and learn about community priorities, volunteer opportunities, and more.
Greater Twin Cities United Way
Greater Twin Cities United Way improves lives and builds a stronger community by bringing together hearts, minds and resources from across the region and by developing effective partnerships with businesses, government and nonprofit organizations. United Way helps create a stronger community by focusing on three impact areas: nurturing children and families, meeting basic needs, and supporting health and independence. Greater Twin Cities United Way supports programs at over 200 partner agencies serving Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties.
Tapemark is also proud to continue its history of participation in the Executive Loan program for the Greater Twin Cities United Way. Through these efforts, we have assisted other companies to design and implement employee giving programs and participated in judging United Way's “Best of” awards. Most recently, we helped to create a project plan for the United Way Emerging Leaders to assist with hurricane recovery efforts in New Orleans.
Community Health Charities Minnesota
Community Health Charities Minnesota (CHCM) is dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by chronic illness through preventing, managing and curing chronic illness. An alliance of 26 leading nonprofit health research and service organizations, CHCM raises funds that support services in five critical areas: medical research, patient services, professional health education, public health education, and community health services.
Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless
Since 1986, Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless (OYH) has helped hungry and homeless people throughout Minnesota. As a statewide charitable organization, OYH primarily assists food shelves, food banks, on-site feeding programs, shelters, transitional and permanent supportive housing programs by providing grants so that life's most basic needs can be served.
Direct Funding
Along with its primary mission of assisting organizations that work on behalf of the developmentally disabled, Tapemark also supports a small variety of other causes. Each year Tapemark donates an average of 5% of pretax profits to charitable organizations that serve the communities where our employees live and work. Matching Programs
Tapemark matches employee cash donations to qualifying charitable organizations. A total of $300 per employee will be matched each year. Tapemark also matches employee volunteer time. The company will donate $300 to any organization for which an employee volunteers 40 hours or more in a calendar year.
The Tapemark Annual Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament
In 1972, Bob Klas Sr., chairman of Tapemark, put his organizational skills and love of golf to work to for a charitable cause. The father of two children with developmental disabilities, he had seen firsthand the growing financial needs of non-profit social service agencies struggling to support people with developmental disabilities and their families.
Now in its 36th year, the Tapemark Charity Pro-Am has become one of the most significant charity events of its kind in the country, and has become one of the “four majors” for the Minnesota Section of the PGA. Past champions include Tom Lehman, Don Berry, Dave Tentis, Mike Barge, and many other notable Minnesota golf professionals.
The tournament has raised over $5.5 million for programs run by our benefiting agencies, working towards our goal of a day when all people, regardless of ability, can live, work, and play in their own communities with dignity, hope, and respect.
The Tapemark Company and many other Twin Cities corporations provide significant sponsorship support, and we welcome the participation of our vendors, customers, and friends as sponsors, golfers, and volunteers.
The Tapemark Pro-Am now consists of two golf events, the Men’s Pro-Am each June and the Women’s Charity Event each September. For more information on either of these events and how you can be a part of them as a sponsor, amateur golfer, or volunteer, please visit the Tapemark Pro-Am website.
